| Deadmau5 - Chillin' Out? |

Mr. Joel Zimmerman, Torontonian better known as Deadmau5, has his first full-length coming out at long last. The album, which is due to include all of the Deadmau5 dancefloor monsters that made him famous, also delves into the more chilled out side of the infamous artist. In fact, in a recent Beatportal interview he went so far as to say that he was interested in producing a kind of “half and half” album, with one disc as an electronic, danceable mix, and the other his own musical preferences which are not necessarily “danceable”, pulling influences from Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Radiohead and the like.

| James Holden: Everyone Is Making “Ableton Techno” |
Last updated -
08/22/2008
|
|
|
|
James Holden was just 19-years old when he released his first single ‘Horizons’ in 2000. At the time he was studying maths at Oxford University, but all he cared about was making music in his bedroom (that, and wearing goth T-shirts). ‘Horizons’ was an epic, progressive trance record that came at the tipping point when trance became too mainstream and progressive house emerged as its darker, more evil brother. James Holden became an overnight sensation thanks to ‘Horizon’, with a little helpful support from German DJ Timo Maas (who was still riding high thanks to his ‘Dooms Night’ remix). But in a recent interview it’s clear that Holden has no respect for the legions of Ableton producers out there trying to make it big through bedroom tunes.

| Scientists: Dance Music Is Good For You |

Egg heads in the UK and Germany have discovered that listening to just 50 minutes of uplifting dance music increases your levels of antibodies. The scientists from Sussex University and the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany also found that stress hormone levels, which can weaken the immune system, decreased after a dose of dance music. And the boffins reckon that their research shows music could be used to help aid patients’ recovery while in hospital. Dr. Ronny Enk, who led the research, said: “We think the pleasant state that can be induced by music leads to special physiological changes which eventually lead to stress reduction or direct immune enhancement.

| The Shapeshifters Break In The House |
Last updated -

|
The Shapeshifters have been tapped by Defected for the label's newest In the House compilation. Bringing their trademark house sound with a splash of soul and funk to the proceedings, the duo offer up two mix CDs along with a third disc that collects "inspirations." While the first two discs predictably largely offer up the sound of the Shapeshifters now, the opening of disc two is a special one: Two mixes of the duo's new rework of Orbital's "Chime" bring in the set, bringing back flashes of acid house's glory days.

| TV Rock [Audio Interview]: Coming @ You From The Underground - Part 1 |

What’s that you say? Yes that’s right, TV Rock are coming at you from the underground. At least, that’s where the DJ/producer duo responsible for the infamous smash hit Flaunt It found their roots, and it’s where they see their future. While Onelove favourite Grant Smillie makes for a flashy frontman of sorts, the lion’s share of the studio work is done by Ivan Gough, an individual who’s no less than one of the most prolific and enduring producers in Australian dance music history. So you think you’ve got TV Rock pegged as cheap and cheesy electro? Think again.

Here is a cartoon version of Mike Monday as he sails through various adventures in his animated album artwork world, filled with sneaky cats and flying guitar synths, with tracks in the background from his forthcoming album due out in September on Om Records titled, ‘Songs Without Words’. A dabbler of many genres, Mike refuses to be pigeonholed into any one sound on this album, running the spectrum from house, funk, and hip hop to disco, chillout and techno. So far, it’s already garnered support from the likes of Peter Kruder, Claude Von Stroke, Dirt Crew, Funk D’Void, Ralph Lawson and more.
